About the Song

Although this song is popularly considered to be a traditional song, it was actually composed by John Roderick Bannerman in Gaelic in 1934 on the occasion of Mary C. MacNiven winning the gold medal at the National Mòd in 1934. The words popularly sung around the world today are from Sir Hugh S. Roberton.
