About the Song

The recording is from Hirschhorn's 1992 "Roots & Wings" album with the Jewish women's a cappella ensemble Vocolot. Hirschhorn writes about her song:

"I had this song translated into Arabic. The roots of the words are very similar to the Hebrew. We do it in three languages to convey our belief in the power of cultural sharing & communication as an effective tool toward the achievement of peace."

Not by might, not by power, but with love

Lai'sa bil harb, lai'sa bil kuwah, bal bil hub

לא בחיל ולא בכח כ עם ברוחי
Lo’ vekhayil, velo’ vechoakh, ki ‘im berukhi
