About the Song

Written in 1943, it was first introduced by Judy Garland in the 1944 MGM musical "Meet Me in St Louis". In 1957 Frank Sinatra asked the lyricst Harry Martin to alter the lyrics to make it more "jolly" and focus more on celebrating present time joy and friendship.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas, let your heart be light
Next year all our troubles will be out of sight

C Am Dm G x2 / C Am Dm G E A D G

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the Yuletide gay
Next year all our troubles will be miles away

C Am Dm G x2 / C Am Dm E Am - C -

Once again as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore

Faithful friends who are dear to us
Will be near to us once more

Fmaj7 - Em - / Dm G Cmaj7 - / Am B7 Em - / A7 D7 Dm7 G -

Someday soon we all will be together if the Fates allow

Until then, we'll have to muddle thru somehow

So have yourself a merry little Christmas now
