Huddie ("Lead Belly" or "Leadbelly") Ledbetter was an American folk & blues singer, musician and songwriter. He was "discovered" in prison by the folklorists John & Alan Lomax 30 years after his musical career had begun. He was subsequently pardoned and released from prison and toured and recorded. Although he is often referred to as "Leadbelly" he always used the spelling "Lead Belly" and this is the name preferred by the Lead Belly Foundation.
